Manhattan

for piano

1989   5'   pub: Composer

I composed this music whilst walking along the streets of Manhattan, New York. Around me a multitude of sounds, colours and distractions of all sorts were getting my attention so strongly that I suddenly felt impelled to give voice to my sensations in music right on the spot. I wrote the score sitting on a bench in a park near Fifth Avenue.

The world premiere was performed by John Palmer at Trinity College of Music in London, on 22nd November 1990.
